How to Calculate Percentages

A percentage represents a fraction of 100. To calculate what percentage one number is of another, use this formula:

(Part ÷ Whole) × 100

For example, to find what percentage 25 is of 200: (25 ÷ 200) × 100 = 12.5%

Common Percentage Calculations

Finding a percentage of a number: Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. For example, 20% of 150 = (150 × 20) ÷ 100 = 30

Adding a percentage: Multiply the number by (1 + percentage/100). For example, add 15% to 200 = 200 × 1.15 = 230

Subtracting a percentage: Multiply the number by (1 - percentage/100). For example, subtract 10% from 100 = 100 × 0.90 = 90
